What is window tinting and how is it beneficial?

Window tinting is the process of applying a thin, protective film to the glass surfaces of vehicles, homes, or commercial buildings. These films are typically made from high-quality materials such as ceramic, metal, or dyed polyester, and are available in various shades and thicknesses to meet different functional and aesthetic needs. The primary purpose of window tinting is to reduce heat and glare from sunlight, enhance privacy, protect interiors from UV damage, and improve overall energy efficiency and comfort.

Window tint is carefully applied using a precise, multi-step process to ensure a clean, professional finish:

Thorough Cleaning: We begin by cleaning the glass inside and out to remove all dust, dirt, and oils. Any debris can cause bubbles or imperfections.
Measuring & Cutting the Film: The tint film is measured and pre-cut to fit each window exactly by hand.
Applying Slip Solution: A water-based slip solution is sprayed onto the glass to allow perfect positioning of the film.
Film Installation: The tint is placed on the inside of the glass and carefully positioned, then squeegeed to remove any air and excess moisture.
Final Inspection & Curing: Once applied, the film is inspected and left to cure (dry out fully). This curing process can take a few days to two weeks, depending on weather conditions.

In Tasmania (and most of Australia), window tint laws are based on Visible Light Transmission (VLT%), which refers to how much visible light can pass through the tinted glass.

Example: 35% = 65% of the light being cut out.

Here are the legal limits:

Front Side Windows: Must allow at least 35% VLT

Rear Side Windows & Rear Windscreen (Passenger Vehicles): Up to 20% VLT is allowed

Vehicles Used to Carry Goods (e.g., utes, vans): May have tint as dark as 0% VLT on the rear windows, provided the vehicle has at least one external rear vision mirror on each side

Windscreen (Glare strip) A tinted strip is allowed at the top, but must not extend more than 10% of the windscreen height.

We only use films that are fully compliant with Tasmanian road laws, so your vehicle stays legal and roadworthy.

This is completely normal and part of the curing process.

After installation, you may notice some haze, streaks, or small water bubbles under the tint film. This happens because we use a water-based slip solution to position the film precisely on the glass.

Here’s what to expect:

The haze and bubbles will disappear on their own as the film cures.
Drying time typically takes a few days to 1–2 weeks, depending on weather conditions and the type of film.
During this period, avoid rolling down vehicle windows or cleaning the film.
